(DES MOINES, Iowa) -- The city of Des Moines wants motorists to be aware that there are three major road construction projects that will begin work this spring, which will impact travel along the 63rd Street/Highway 28 corridor from I-235 to Brown Woods Drive.
The Grand Avenue Bridge over Walnut Creek at 63rd Street will close on Monday after 9 a.m. and it will remain closed until September. Vehicles will still be able to travel north and south on 63rd Street.
Continuing south on 63rd Street/ Hwy 28, there will be a reconstructing project of the intersection of HWY 28/63rd at SW McKinley (Des Moines) and Browns Woods Drive (West Des Moines). The work is planned to start April 1 and last six months.
The Iowa Department of Transportation will also have a bridge and roadway widening construction project on westbound I-235 between 63rd Street and 73rd Street in Des Moines and Windsor. Construction is scheduled to begin on April 22, and completion of the project is scheduled for the late fall of 2013.
