Four Students Make Iowa National Geographic Bee Semifinals

(WEST DES MOINES, Iowa) -- Students from four West Des Moines Schools are going to compete in the 2013 Iowa National Geographic Bee Semifinals to compete for a shot at Nationals.

Fifth grader Pramit Vyas, fifth grader Animesh Joshi, eighth grader Kacey Baker and eighth grader Ben Koele won their school geography bees, and have all advanced to the semifinals.

The 2013 Iowa National Geographic Bee will be held at the DMACC Ankeny Campus on April 5. The state winner gets prizes and a trip to Washington where they will represent Iowa in the national finals in May. The National winner gets a $25,000 scholarship, lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society, and an all-expenses paid trip to the Galapagos Islands.

The final round of the National Geographic Bee will be moderated by Alex Trebek on the National Geographic Channel on May 23.
