You don't have a right to be in another person's establishemtn and they have the right to set their own rules. I am sad to think you believe your children will only be happy if they can go to resturaunts, and bars? You realize children don't go to bars right? So if adults want to sit around in a bar and inhale each other's smoke how does thta effect you? If you want a smoke free bar then why don't you and your non-smoker buddies open a new smoke free bar? I don't like being told what to do so we can coddle socialistic ideas of child coddlers. I love my kids too, but I see no reason I shouldn't be able to go to a bar and resturaunt with proper ventilation and smoke. Tanning causes skin cancer so hopefully you don't let your kids go outside in the sunlight. |

(9/17/2008 4:10:14 PM) Let me just say I am an ex smoker and I think the new law is absolutely fantastic!!! I understand everyone thinks they have such rights but the fact of the matter is everyone has a right to breath clean air. If you want to smoke stay home. I really think those of you that smoke ought to stop for a week and then go around a person that still smokes and see just how bad they smell. It is nasty! I quit because I was tired of being a slave to it. We made the rule when we bought our new car not to smoke in it. When we found ourselves pulling over in a parking lot in the middle of town to smoke we decided enough was enough. It is a health hazard to not only the smokers but to everyone that has to breath it. To people with Asthma it could mean death. To children it could mean RSV possibly resulting in death. It is not fair to them that they can't go out and enjoy life just because of selfish people that want to "exercise their rights" by slowly killing themselves. When I pay the same amount of money you pay for diner I expect to enjoy it just as much as you do. If you need a cigarette to do that then maybe you should reevaluate your priorities in life. Maybe you should take control of your life rather than letting Phillip Morris control you. |

(8/19/2008 3:30:24 PM) Mac, do you think the colleges are concerned that since we have done away with the smoking on campus that if they don't make it legal to drink at 18 the public might demand no beer on campus also? No income from beer sales at concerts ect. I personally do not have a problem with 18. I do remember the near beer of Kansas. |

(5/1/2008 3:09:05 PM) My personal opinion is this, people have the priveledge to dine or drink in an owner's bar or resturant, not a right. Just like driving is considered a priveledge not a right. To me you can stay at home and cook your own meals at home each night , you can also buy yourself a six pack of Bud and drink at home, you do not have to go out somewhere else to do so. I also don't understand why any person who was so adamantly against smoking would choose a job where they knew they would be constantly exposed to smoke, then choose to complain about it later. Although I do think that decent rules such as having ventilation systems are a good thing, the owners ought to maintain their right to be the one to choose how their place will be ran, including smoking or non. |
